The Littlest Birds...

When I made my Family Rules window with those bird fabric jellies, I had intended to make two of them. But then Greg came home with this window for me.

The minute I saw it, I knew exactly what I wanted to do with it!

I started with the leftover fabric strips that I had already sewn together.



I put the fabric on one side and began cutting up an old children's songbook for the other side.





I really wish the words to the songs had shown up better in the pictures, but I couldn't get a clear shot of them. I must have taken (what seemed like) a million pictures and believe it or not, those were the best two. Anyway, I chose songs like; Jesus Loves Me, Jesus Loves the Little Children, Sing, Little Children, Sing, etc. Then I got out my trusty Cricut and finished it off.



I know, my s is crooked in birds. I've got to go fix that! Why do I not notice these things until I'm posting the picture?

Goodbye, Old Friend

Why do I get so attached to the windows I do? It's not like they're all hanging on my walls. They're all nicely stacked up waiting to be sold.

A friend of ours was telling us about a fundraiser her granddaughters fast pitch softball team was having. It was a Texas Hold-em tournament. Greg wasn't able to go, so I donated this window for their raffle. I don't know why, but this has always been one of my favorites.

That's the only picture I have because it was freezing that day we took it to her. And Greg was honking at me in the car!

More Family Rules

The first time I made this was Here but I found the most fabulous fabric at JoAnns the other day and just knew I had to make another one. I'm probably the last person on the planet to discover Jellies. They are coordinating strips of fabric that come in a roll. How perfect for this! All you have to do is lay them out and sew them together.

Could that material be any cuter? Love it!

Family Rules

I saw this at Lindsey's The Pleated Poppy blog one day and fell in love with it.

She made hers with canvas and scrapbook paper. I don't have a stash of paper, but I did have fabric.

I cut a bunch of strips out of coordinating brown and sewed them together.

Ironed batting on the back after they were all sewn.

Then I just top stitched down all the seams. Now for the words...

Remember this little jewel that was supposed to be my great friend this year? Well, she didn't play so nice on the playground with my vinyl.

Yep, that's a disaster. I went and read her diary and found out I should do something with this.

Are you happy now?

Much better! I put the fabric behind the window and applied all the vinyl words on the front.

Like my neighbors house across the street in the window? Somebody please tell me how to take a picture of a window! You wouldn't believe how many pictures I deleted that had me taking a picture of it in it.

Anybody who saw me probably thought I had finally flipped, walking around the whole yard trying to take a decent picture. It never happened (the decent picture) but at least you get the idea.

Recycled Window

I love old windows and I'm so lucky that Greg replaces old windows and it's like Christmas every time he comes home with the ones he replaced. Some are the original wood and some are painted. That's half the fun, finding fabric to match the frame.

Then I get with my best friend, Google, and find quotes that I love.

I sew muslin and the fabric together and hand embroider the saying. The really fun part is taking my coffee I'm still getting jittery on and start staining away. If I were a patient girl, I would just let it dry naturally. I can't wait to see how it's going to look so I always bring out the blow dryer to speed up the process. Little things make me happy, like watching coffee dry on fabric.

These windows make me happy and I'm going to try and start doing at least 2 or 3 of them a month starting in January. I have all of you as witnesses, so I have to stick to this goal. Wish me luck.

Recycled Wood Window

I get so excited when Greg replaces old wood windows. He always brings them home and lets me go through the trailer before he gets rid of them. I've never done anything Christmas using one and decided to this year. Here's what I came up with.

Remember the Christmas trees I painted along with me and the dog? There they are on the outside of the glass. I had a book I had finished reading and went to work on it.

First you fold a page halfway into a triangle. By the way, those are not my little fingers. I had help that day.

Then fold that triangle into the seam of the book.

 And fold and fold and fold! I used a third of the book for each tree.

I quilted a Christmas tree fabric and appliqued Santa on it.

Framed the finished fabric piece behind the glass and glued my trees and wooden star on the outside. I know these pictures are bad. I couldn't find a good place in the house to take them.
