Casserole Carrier

I guess that's what it's called. I've never owned one before. A friend of mine had one that was her mom's and worn out and ask if I could make her a new one. She gave me the old one, but it had ribbon for ties and a thin wood piece in the bottom. Since I'm not allowed to use power tools (because of the little finger incident), I had to come up with something else.

To make it sturdy without the wood, I machine quilted the outside fabric.

Everybody, tell Greg he makes a lovely hand model!



I used Velcro instead of ribbon for the sides that fold in and made 2 pockets to hold utensils.



I don't think it turned out too bad, considering I had no idea what I was doing!

Pat the Bunny

This is Pat.

Pat didn't start like that.

I found a bunny coloring page and traced it on Muslin. I then layered muslin, batting, sticky magnets, and the traced bunny all together.



I sewed around on the bunny I drew and then cut close to the stitching.

By the way, somebody needs a new ironing board cover!!!

Painted a little face on.



Okay, we can't have a naked bunny so I used paint samples to make the clothes.



I put magnets on the back of all the pieces of clothes to stick to the magnets I had sewn in the bunny.



We need a place to live now.

This is where the whole idea came from. I wanted to make a purse out of that Pat the Bunny book and as I was thinking about it, I decided it needed a bunny to put in it.

I used fabric and ribbon to make it. I wasn't sure how it would come out, so I didn't take any pictures.

I'm going to make a few more and will post about how I did it later. Super easy!

Dolly Bunk Bed

When Krissi was 2 (29 years ago), my dad made this bunk bed for her babies out of walnut.

It's now been passed on to her girls, Triniti and Tierni. My mom had made mattresses, pillows, and quilts for it, but we can't find them. I know I packed them away somewhere safe to save them, just haven't figured out where yet. So I went to work on it.

I made the mattresses and pillows out of an old crib bumper pad.

Isn't that fabric cute? Love it!

The blanket is fleece and flannel. I love pink.

I think this is going to work.

Jordyn saw it and loved that soft fleece and said her babies need a blanket, too. Off to make more. By the way, if Greg doesn't ever let me play with power tools, we may never know if I might have Daddy's woodworking talent.

A Heart for Jordyn

I really don't know what to call this. It's not reverse applique. It's probably faux chenille not done right. I'll explain later. I found a long sleeve navy shirt I bought at Hobby Lobby on sale one time and stuck away. It's Jordyn's size, so she needs a valentine shirt.

Here's what I did.

I cut out 5 layers of the heart pattern I made.

I marked the top heart with lines about 3/4" apart and then pinned the 5 layers to the front of the shirt.

I sewed down the lines but not around the hearts.

Now you start cutting between all the stitches. I cut all 5 layers because I wanted to see the navy between the rows. If you were doing faux chenille, you wouldn't cut the bottom layer. By the way, if you don't have one of these nifty (nifty? What old lady just said that?) scissors, you need to run, don't walk to JoAnns and buy a pair. I bought them when I started doing rag quilts and don't know how I lived without them.

All cut up, throw in the washer so it gets all raggy looking.

We took this picture right after I finished it so it hadn't been washed yet.

Journal/Doodle Case

I made something like this for Jalynn for Christmas. I didn't take any pictures then because I was finishing it up on Christmas Eve. Another reason is because if I make something, my poor family gets the first one with all the trials and errors! Sorry family, what can I say? You are all my scapegoats, that sounds better than test rats. Anyway, here's what I did.

That's the outside holder. I machine quilted the outside.

On the inside are two fabric quilted spiral notebooks.

One pocket holds the journal spiral and the other holds the doodle spiral. You know, there might be days that you just want to doodle.

I made a pocket on one side for colored pencils and pens and the other side for journal ideas.

I searched Google (another one of my friends) and found a bunch of journal questions from different places. Printed them on cloud paper and mod-podged them to the tags. By the way, get it? Cloud paper, dreaming, thinking. That was my ah-ha moment at Hobby Lobby.

I did that to both sides so there would be more questions.
